Parallels not recognizing usb port

I am trying to download a file from a cruzer micro 8gb thumb drive to the quickbooks program on my parallels VM. The VM is running XP. It keeps telling me to close the application that is using the cruzer. No apps are running except for the finder . This is on an '07 macbook with leopard.I also cannot find the cruzer on the mac os anywhere.
Help,please.

You need to go to disk utility and partition the thumb drive as Master Boot Record partition scheme and then reformat it as MS-DOS then both the Windows VM and OSX will be able to read/write to the drive. This can easily be done in disk utility. I'd assume at the moment it is formatted as NTFS.
