Password problem, how many attempts before it's locked?

I created my new password the other day, I wrote it down but now i have come to use it and it's not working. I am sure it's something I'm doing wrong (like caps for one letter) but I have already tried 8-10 times. Is there a limit?
 
I have never reached one. If this is a home Mac then find the latest OS X disk that you have, boot with that install disk but don't go through the whole install. At the beginning of the install script hunt around in the menu items for resetting the master password. Then quit the installer and return to try the new password you just reset.

Basically you can use you OS X disk to reset the p/w.

EDIT -beaten to it by Satcommer, but the link is useful anyway. Also note the bit about having to fiddle with the keychain afterwards.
