my mac has os x (i think panther 10.4) and i recently had to archive and re install because i couldnt fix the library sharing error I was having trouble with. once i re installed panther, the computer wouldnt accept my password. i tried starting the computer up right from the disc, but i cant remember the button combination, and i lost the manual. if there is a way, how can i hack into my OWN computer? and can i possibly get into my computer without having to delete all of the very important files i have stored on there?

Press (and hold) "C" to boot from the CD. If that doesn't work, press option while booting up.
If that doesn't work, you can always boot into target disk mode (hold T on boot), then connect another mac to your computer via firewire, and take out the files you need.
