Password protect archived files

Anyone know if there's a way to password protect archived files? or would I have to use some 3rd party app.

I archived the file via the Finder menu, select app> file> create archive of ...
 
I don't think so, you can password rar files though, or even better, make a compressed disk image and encrypt it (using Disk Utility), i think that's the recommended route for this kind of thing.
 
Not sure in stuffit, but i Disk Utility:

Go to File>New>Disc Image from folder, then select compressed and AES 128 encryption. Does that give you a blank folder?
 
Ar ! just realized it has to be a folder you're compressing, I was trying to select an .avi and going about doing it in a totally different way. Cheers mate, all seems to have worked.
