ok, i bought my ibook g4 at the pawn shop i work at, originally i could log on but with no admin access. i looked all over the net trying to figure out how to remove this admin password so i could add my own.
in doing so i found a tutorial that tells you to delete the .applesetupdone from var/db i did so and then the ibook booted into broken folder/kernel panic.....i went back into terminal and used the touch command to to put the file back but now when i boot it boots to login screen and gives me the other option for account with no username to go off of i dont have a disc and im lost

No way around it, you need to purchase the OS disk in order to change the password.

Most of the iBooks shipped with 10.3 on them except the latest one that had 10.4.4 on it.
All the iBooks except the very first one can handle 10.5. The trick is know which machine you have. You maybe better off getting 10.4 - Tiger. You can check Amazon. You don’t want the family pack of 5 licenses since you only need one.

ok, so i was able to find a 10.5 update disc at work and a 10.4.1 install disc that was with an imac i cant update the computer to 10.5 unless its running 10.4 and the 10.4 disc gives me a kernel panic if i could access the system prefs any way id be fine but so far im pretty lost

You can not use a disk labeled iMac install for an iBook. You need a full install disk for 10.4 or one that says iBook G4.

And by the way, you need the power adapter plugged in to the iBook and a working outlet before you start up using the install disk.
