PB 12" Noisey Burner???

I'm the proud owner of a 12" powerbook.
Just recently started to clear up my disk, burning alot of my unused files to Cd's. When burning a CD the drive is usually very quiet and sometimes speeds up and is slightly louder however recently sometimes when burning a CD the drive will kick up a huge racket, stupidly loud. This has never happened before?
Is this normal? Is there anything i can do?
Thanks in advance for your time.
Richard

I had this happen, most noticeably with a faulty CD. It had a crack or
flaw, which threw it out of balance.

I've also had it happen with CDs unbalanced by too much paint on one side!
(I was using blank media at the office with an outdated corporate logo painted on). Lowering the burn speed helped in this case.

Thanks ever so much for your reply.
You're bang on the nail. I tried a different type of media and it was at normal noise levels and then slowed down the speed with my first media to reach the same effect. It's amazing how much a small amount of print can throw it so far off balance.
I can see this site being very useful in the future.
Thanks again.

My Mac Mini will do the same with unbalanced or slightly cracked CDs. It even causes the computer stand to vibrate sometimes.
