ya, i have the service man already, and have been through it. when i plug it in i get nothing at all. no lights anywhere, no bong or any signs of life when pushing the power button. so i should be replacing the pmu or mobo board according to it. well not having either of those, or really wanting to spend money on it (it only cost me $10 at the university surplus) i started taking it apart. first thing was fixing the power cord from the brick. someone had done a really bad hack job. so i cut the connector off and apart. i cut the wire out of the brick, and ran new wire from the brick to plug. then i plugged it in and tested it. i am getting 24v to the plug. so far so good. took the keyboard, speaker grill, hinge covers and palm rest off, in that order. low and behold, there is no hard drive in it, so i'm not the first one in here. i plug the laptop in, and test on the mobo plug, getting 24v there. i put the battery in place, and test the connectors that are marked + and -, i have about 10v there (the battery it self when out reads zero). i test the pram battery and get nothing, and still nothing when it is plugged in. so from what i have seen, i would say that the pmu is getting power and trying to charge the battery, but is not sending any power to the pram battery, and can not turn the powerbook on. not to bad, it goes for about $40-$60 at online stores and ebay. but there is always the chance that the mobo is bad, and those cost more, between $100-$200 depending where and with which cpu i get. i would hate to buy the pmu when its the mobo, and vice-versa. so what would be anyone else's thoughts and ideas. thanks.
btw, is this thing even worth fixing?
