PC, Macs, Ethernet Hubs and 802.11b

Hi guys, your help on this would be appreciated.

I'm setting up a house network, and need wireless access for my Macs.

OK, here's the setup:

The room with the ADSL connection has a PC with XP (sorry;) connected to the net by a standard ADSL modem, and a combined router and 802.11b wireless base-station (made by NETGEAR). Now what I need to do, is take the PC's internet connection and share it over the network to my Macs, my lovely shiny Macs.

It can't be just as simple as plugging it in right? can it? I'm guessing I need to activate some sharing feature in XP.

Also, someone said something about needing an Ethernet crossover cable instead of a normal one... ?

many thanks,

Bernie )

You shopuldn't have to do anything with the XP machine. The wireless Netgear will provide the connection to the wireless Macs.

Modem>NetGear
XP Machine>Netgear
Macs>wireless

plug in and give it a try.

Sorry, I wasn't clear on the details of the hardware - the modem is a USB modem which requires drivers installed on the PC.

The only way of getting the modem connected to the macs is:

Modem -> Windows PC -> NETGEAR Router -> Macs
       \             \                 \
        USB           Ethernet          802.11g

(gotta love ASCII diagrams)
