PC2100 vs PC2700

Will a 512mb PC2700 ram work on a Powermac G4 Dual 867mhz machine? Recommended is PC2100. But on PC's you can use faster ram on a slower machine, and not vice versa. Does that work with Macs as well? I'd like to use slightly faster 512 ram if I could. Thanks

I don't think you can use the PC2700 ram if the mobo supports PC2100, there's a thing on Apple's site unde rsupport that addresses this question and Apple says no.

But why would you pay more for the faster ram if the mobo won't take advantage of the faster speed? You'd just be wasting money.

But as jb22 said, PC2100 RAM is usually cheaper
