I have been a life long Mac user (since 1985 with the Mac 512K(e), Mac Plus, Mac II, Apple Laptop, Radius clone, iMac, Cube, PB Ti G4). I use at work WinDoze 2000 which is a very nice system from M$ finally. I would prefer to use a Mac at work, however, the one major thing that is preventing me from using it is that there is no way for me to use pcAnywhere to connect to some servers and control them.

Does anyone know if there is any product either from Symantec or a third party who can connect to a pcAnywhere enabled machine?

It looks like Timbuktu does not connect to a pcAnywhere enabled machine. We are not able to switch packages just for one user. I need to be able to connect to a pcAnywhere enabled machine.

Howdy,

The easiest thing would be to install AT&T's VNC software on everything a good starting place is http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/. that will let you connect to remote windows and Xwindows desktops. There is a client for OSX which works fine.

Now you said that they cannot install software on all the boxes just for you so all you need to do is install it on one box. Presumably you have a windows box at the moment so all you need to do is run the server side on it and stick it in a closet. Then when you need to access pcAnywhere just connect to your old windows box and run pcAnywhere from there.

I had forgotten about VNC. That would work great from home! But what about if I bring my machine to work? Kind of redundant to connect to a machine next to me to pcAnywhere to one of our servers. I would love to just bring in my Mac and be able to use it to connect to other servers. I take it that there is no way to connect to a pcAnywhere session using a Mac. Would be nice if Symantec would create an OS X version of pcAnywhere. Maybe name it... Oh, i dunno.. macAnywhere?

This whole issue is probably moot anyway since the main software I use is Lotus Notes and even though they have versions that run on OS X, they do not have a Developer or Administration client for the Mac. Oh well... Dream on...
