Permissions on hard drive root

I've got a problem when a user logs in to a workstation via Netinfo/LDAP from an Xserve, the workstations owner for the hard disk and desktop are set to the user. This means that the user can then move or delete any files from the root level of the drive.

Can anybody help? I think this must be something to do with the security authentication, because if i go into workgroup manager and change the primary group assigned to a user account, the group owner changes for the drive as well?? We can change these while logged in to have System/root as owner and then the permissions behave find. However, this only stays set until the user logs out and back in again. Then the problem comes back. I've also tried setting the owner of the volume when we log in, but it gets overridden again, and Me (current user) becomes the owner.

Can anyone help please? i'm getting kind of frantic as we don't want students to be able to delete critical files off the workstations.

Thanks in advance.
