photoshop, cutting text...??

working on cs2

3 layers

1. solid black covering the who image.
2. image of a crowd with orange tint.
2. same image but with purple tint.

so the two images are coved by the layer of black, knowing i can use brushers under the erase tool to show the images under.

i want to wright text on the black layer so that it shows the two images under, if like i'm cutting out the text...

Make the text a layer mask on the black layer, or over all three, as in a Layer Group.
