Photoshop, Illustrator CS2 crash-on-launch

This problem is occuring on a G4, 1.12Gb RAM, OS 10.4.2.

Photoshop and Illustrator CS2 are crashing on launch when 'reading fonts' from the ./library/application support/adobe/fonts folder.
These fonts are installed by adobe cs installer (!), yet when these two app's start to read the fonts, they crash. I have reinstalled from original and from separate cd's
I have done a clean OS install on an external fw hd, then installed CS only and still this happens.
I have copied the same fonts folder from another Design Mac (which does not have this problem) and the crashing continues.
I have pulled all the DIMMS, one by one and the crashes still occur (at least it is consistent).
BTW - InDesign, Acrobat, Distiller -all launch and run fine -

When fonts folder is moved to desktop Illustrator and Photoshop both launch and operate as one would expect (but then InDesign won't launch 'cause it can't find the fonts folder) -
attached below is the crash log from one of the photoshop crashes (illustrator crash logs are similar) -sorry it is a bit long...

This is driving me nuts.

Having same problem both at work and at home. Having many font related problems anyway and continuing to use Suitcase despite recommendations not to. Some days are worse than others, but better to put up with them than do without font managment.

CS2 Illustator and photoshop started working about a week after I installed them, was trying them each day at work when they suddenly worked! Didn't do anything different, so no answers unfortunately. Home mac still not working.

Obviously a problem shared by others. Answers from Adobe would be good :)

I have a G5 with leopard and am using CS2. When I first installed leopard, illustrator would crash on launching. I repaired permissions and tossed the preferences. It has been working for weeks. Today it started crashing on launch again even though I tried the same fix that worked before. It crashed here: path="/System/Library/CoreServices/Encodings/libThaiConverter.dylib"/>
</binaryImageSet>
</crash>
Anyone know a work around. I'm going to check my fonts. I did reload some yesterday but they are ones I had before, which I had taken out. But they were in until yesterday.
