photosmart driver not found??

My dad just gave me an hp photosmart 1215. I downloaded the driver from the hp site. Ran the install, all went well up to the point of adding the printer.

The printer comes up in the USB Printer list, but "Driver Not Installed" is displayed as the type after the automatic search.

I have used the installation's 'print test page' and all works fine.

Of course none of my applications can get to it because I can't add it.

Does the hp installer put the driver in the right place?

I guess you are using Panther, not Tiger?
Try these two steps:
Repair permissions (Disk Utility).
Delete Print Prefs - search for files (File > Find) that start with com.apple.print, and delete them all. Restart the Mac. now try ADDing.
 
I have Mac OS X, What's the difference between Panther and Tiger?
I thought I was posting in the right place, my apologies.

Can you please let me know the difference between Panther and Tiger so I get it right in the future?
