Photosmart printer and the perpetual beachball

My hp photosmart 1215 printer has always been an attention hog but it seems to be getting worse. It takes me anywhere from 7 to 20 minutes to print a single page, even if it's just a 1 page, all text Word document. Worst of all, during this print interval I am pretty well locked up in the spinning beachball mode, unable to use other programs.

Last time I checked I had the latest drivers available. I can't help but believe there is a simple remedy for this situation. That remedy, however, seems to be beyond my grasp. :(

Thanks in advance for any input.

Have you tried using Print Center Repair? You can get it at versiontracker.com or macupdate.com. You need version 3.03 to run on Jaguar.

Although I'm still trying to determine just what this utility will do, so far it hasn't found anything wrong. HP has "released" a new driver in the last 10 days for the Photosmart 1215. However, there is no mention of what it fixes and I am completely unable to download it. Intuition tells me neither of these will solve my problem.

I have an Epson 740 that prints like a blazing demon, but no amount of cleaning can make it print a crisp, clean copy. Maddening  !

I was not able to get the file to download with Safari or IE. I seemed to have a vague recollection of having download problems with HP before. On a whim I tried Omniweb and got the file right away. I have installed the new driver and it is marginally better on the first try. This HP just does not play well with OS X and probably never will for me.

I have a HP photosmart 7350 and it would not play well with OS X either. After lots of frustration I bought a canon i950 and could not be happier. Your not the only one that has had this problem. I hope you find the solution you are looking for. Good luck.

I also have a hp ps 7350. I used gimp print to resolve my issues. There is astill a little latnecy - 30 seconds or so at most but it works and the print quality is great. The ps1215 is supported as it is in the same family. Good luck.

PS- don't miss the note about ghostscript. install it first then gimp print. Detailed insrtuctions are at the site.

Between the new driver and a recent speed boost for my B & W my problem is not nearly as annoying. I'm going to toy with Gimp-Print anyway. Thanks speedfreak! :)
