Pioneer DVD problems?

I have a Pioneer DVD Rewrite - Model DVR-104 that came with my Mirrored door Quicksilver G4. It suddenly stopped reading DVD's. It still reads CD's. And it still shows up in my System Profiler. I recently exchanged it with a Pioneer Superdrive. And it worked great. I returned the before mentioned DVD-RW (DVR-104) and suddenly it will not read DVD's. Please Help!

That 104 is a tad long of tooth, Ed. When failing, a drive often
loses one feature (CD or DVD) first. Spend the $45 and get a 111:

When I upgraded to Tiger on 3 of my macs (2 Quicksilvers and one AGP) all of my Pioneer DVR104s began to experience problems. After many searches I found this: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/hs/update.html, I followed the instructions (you have to boot into OS 9) and this fixed all my drives! Now no problems at all.
