Pioneer Dvr-109 Not Recognising Dvds Or Cds

Hullo again.
My G3 AV Tower now has a PowerLogix 900 processor (running at 867, OS9.2.2 profiler tells me that my speed is now 200Mhz) and I have Panther 10.3.9 installed on a bootable 58GB partition of my Neptune 160GB FireWire drive.
My G3 itself has 3 partitions:
10.3.9 (rarely used, as it is only 3.41GB);
storage for Panther - 7.81GB;
and OS9.2.2 on a 27GB partition.
The previous DVD-ROM/CD-R is now in an external aluminium box on Firewire and working fine.

The new Pioneer DVD-109 Superdrive is "seen" by the System Profilers:

ATA Bus:

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109:

Manufacturer: PIONEER
Model: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109
Revision: 1.40
Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
Disc Burning: Vendor Supported
Removable Media: Yes
Detachable Drive: No
Protocol: ATAPI
Unit Number: 0
Socket Type: Internal

The caddy opens and closes, but neither CDs nor DVDs show up on the desktop... which
feels like a software rather than a hardware problem.

Any suggestions of what might be the cause and how I can resolve the problem will be gratefully received.
sincerely
Roger

I would suggest that you in stall Patchburn, from

Thanks Walt. Patchburn 3.1 in place, but still no joy with disk recognition.
Toast wants to burn, but says the CDs/DVDs zooming in and out don't actually exist. I'm going to try reinstalling the DVD extension from OSX 10.3 disk 1.
And I've noted the possibility that my video card/chip may not be up to scratch.
However, all the 'Tools' tell me that the 109 is healthy.

I used Pioneer's own revision update and noe System Profiler tells me:
ATA Bus:

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109:

Manufacturer: PIONEER
Model: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109
Revision: 1.50
Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
Disc Burning: Not Supported
Removable Media: Yes
Detachable Drive: No
Protocol: ATAPI
Unit Number: 0
Socket Type: Internal

......so Disc burning was 'vendor supported' on revision 1.40, but now it's not supported on 1.50 !
I reinstalled DVD PLayer from the 'Essentials package' on System Install Disc 1, but still no recognition of any CDs or DVDs.
If anyone else has had this problem: PLEASE, how did you solve it?
Roger - sleepless in his G3 Tower.

Hi Helpers ! Just to let you know that the retail outlet has finally agreed to deal with the 109 - pretty surely, the laser was broken before I even opened the box! I'll let you know what happens. Cheers. Roger.
