Hi -

I just got a new mouse and I want to install the .pkg. How the hell do I do that!?

What mouse, what software came with it?

Can you double click the package?

Microsoft Wireless Optical Blue

I can mount it, but I can't open it. It says something about there's no default application to open the program.

That's odd; I wonder if the attributes are set wrong or something.

Normally the Installer program (in your /Applications/Utilities folder) opens .pkg files. You could try drag/dropping the pkg onto the Installer app, or just choose Installer when it prompts you to specify the application to open the file.

Well - that seems to be the problem. I don't eve see "installer" in my Apps/Util folder. Is there a way that I can get that back? Or am I screwed?

Huh! I wonder what happened to it.

I know that in OS9, you could user your installer disks to selectively install only certain components. I have never tried it with OSX, but if you have your disks handy you could try it.

Failing that, you could ask someone to just email it to you. I wouldn't expect Apple to object; it's not as if Installer.app on its own is much good if you don't already have the rest of OSX...
