Place multiple files as one IDD story

I'm a new user on this forum and beg forgiveness if I'm asking a question that's already answered elsewhere . . . but I didn't see it.

I have a number of Word files I'd like to place as a single story within InDesign CS. I can't find a way to do this within IDD, but maybe someone else knows. I'd also be happy with a lead to a plug-in that does this task or to a non-IDD utility that combines the files outside IDD. The immediate need happens to involve Word files, but the same need comes up from time to time with files in other text formats, so a universal utility would be good.

Indesign supports importing Word files with or without formating. Just use the PLACE command, as you would with any other imported file. You can even retain a link to the word file, in case you want to edit it in word and have it update in Indesign. You can also keep importing multiple word documents into a single or linked series of text boxes, one after the other.
