Play Mac MP3s on PC

Ok...I have an imac running OSX 10.1. I also have a laptop running Windows XP that has a wireless nettwork connection. The two are both hooked to a Cable Router. Is there a way to play the MP3's that are stored on my mac (there are quite a few) on my PC laptop without copying them onto the laptop or a cd.

I have tried Remote Desktop Connection but can't get it to work. I thought maybe I could turn my mac into a server that only my PC laptop can see but no such luck.

Basically, I want to open winamp or musicmatch on my laptop and play the mp3 files that are stored on my imac. Can this be done? If so...how?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. I know about Dave for OSX but $150 seems like alot of money to let a mac and pc talk to each other. Besides, it still my not work.

What you want is the "Samba Sharing Package" which I think you can find on Version Tracker as a simple DMG install, along with a couple of utils to help you set it up included.

Samba allows your mac (or indeed, most any unix flavour) to provide windows file services. That means, once you've set it up, you'll be able to get files on your mac to appear on your windows machine under network neighbourhood, and from there simply play the files.

You'll want to read quickly through the documentation to make sense of what it is you're trying to do. On my machine I have the app "SSCT - Samba Sharing Control Tool" and a Samba pane in System Prefs, and I think they both were included in the bundle but you may want to check.

It is worth pointing out that OS X 10.2 "Jaguar" has these services built-in.
