I have an imac and a G3 Wallstreet powerbook both running on OSX 10.2.3 - cable connected to both ethernet ports - personal file sharing is on -
Apple talk is active - in Network -built in ethernet - using DHCP - when I
go to "connect to server" nothing happens!*? - any suggestions ?? Cheers!!

If you're connecting with ethernet cable directly from one computer to the other, the Ethernet cable MUST be a crossover cable, standard ethernet patch cable CAN'T work!

Just to clear things up incase someone else is wondering about this same question with different hardware. Any recent macs will actualy auto detect if you're connecting two computers with a straight through CAT 5 cable. There is absolutely no need for a crossover.

In order for the Macs to detect that and make it work correctly it has to be between two new Macs, and not a Mac and a PC, correct? I haven't actually tried it, but that's what I read somewhere.
