Here's a odd one:
few days ago I have unplugged my mac from the power source*, because of a storm with thunders (I have bad experiences with lightning frying hardware.) When the storm stopped, I plugged it back and it would not star up at all. No blue, gray, or question mark screen. It did not even make the sound when I pressed the power button. The power button light is working, the CD/DVD ROM drive too.
I took out the hard drive to see if it is damaged. So I plugged it on a PC trough external USB case. It found it, but can't mount it. (the HD is 80gb IBM Extended Journaled format). It can't read it.
The same thing happened two months ago with my WD20gb. Storm, I unplugged the computer, computer wont start up. HD dead. plugged it on a PC trough external USB case. It found it, but can't mount it. (the HD is 80gb IBM Extended format). It can't read it. In both cases only reads the some-kind-of serial number that i can read too on the sticker on the HD. And I have to click the "safely remove hardware" icon on lower right corner. Mac can't mount them at all.
Something is frying this Disks but don't know what. Is there a known power issue with mac's? I have herd that they are sensitive when it comes to voltage and stuff. Can something like this be solved with UPS or is it a malfunction from the computer itself?
*In both cases network and modem lines were also disconnected.
thanks,
Andrea.
