PocketDock with line out

Really showing off my hardware ignorance here, but cest la vie - Is "line out" something you can plug earphones into, like you can into the iPod's built in headphone jack?

i.e. Would the music on an iPod sound (perceptibly) better if you had plugged earphones into the line out of the PocketDock, rather than the actual headphone jack?

Hi,

No, you wouldn't want to plug headphones into the line out jack.

1) It's a fixed output, so you can't adjust the volume.
2) It's a much higher output then the headphone jack.

The line out jack is for connecting to either a stereo receiver/amplifier, FM transmitter or cassette interface (for listening in the car), or a portable stereo (boom box) with an aux. input.

I'm glad you asked, and didn't just try it! :)

Regards,
Marc

The signal level is higher. Let me put it this way; if I've got my iPod connected to an amplifier via the headphone jack I've got to turn the volume all the way up to get a decent sound. Using headphones with the volume up that high is certainly not a good idea! The line out is at that higher level; good for amplifiers, but bad for headphones. I hope that answers your question.

Marc
