POP Password Problems on Mail Account

Hi,
my name is Alexandra. I would really appreciate any help on this:
I have been using the mac mail 10.2.5 for a while but now everytime I open my mail on the desktop I get the message "Enter password for account" 'Please re-enter. POP server 'mail.btinternet.com' rejected the password for user 'alexjasper@btinternet.com'.
I then put in my btinternet password manually but after a few min the same questions comes up again. I also do not receive mails anymore only if I go to ;get new message', although the mail preferences are on 'check for new mail every minute".
In the preference panel, the description 'alexjasper@btinternet.com' is highlighted grey instead of blue.
I am using a D-Link ASDL Modem.
I tried deleting the account and setting up a new one. The problem stayed.
Might it have anything to do with my Safari Settings, emptying caches?

I have no idea what's the problem, my email password is correct and I also had a look at the Keychain access. But to be honest not sure how this connects with my mac password. Would be great if someone kwew how to solve this.

Thanks a lot.
Alexandra

You problem has nothing to do with Safari. On occasion, your computer may have problems connecting to a particular server--including your POP server. I personally have not experienced this particular problem in a while, but I have experienced it. Try selecting the Mailbox > Go Online menu item. If this does not work, sacrifice a chicken and dance naked around the room while reciting your favorite incantation.

Other advice: The most recent version of MacOS X 10.2 is MacOS X 10.2.8. The update is free and fixes some issues that need fixing. Open the Software Update preferences pane in System Preferences.

Hi MisterMe,

I'd even do the chicken dance with a dead chicken hanging around my naked body if that only solved the problem.

I have no Go Online menue item, have been wondering where it actually is?
I will try the software update, so you don't think it has anything to do with my settings?

Thanks anyway.
Alexandra

It has been a while since I used MacOS X 10.2. The suggestion that I gave you applies to Mail 2.0.7. However, there is a similar menu selection for your version. It should be easy to find.
