I've read some other threads concerning the same problem (Sporadic password problems", "Can't read mail") but none of the suggested hints worked.
MacOSX 2.8 on G3
Mail App
Problem:
I have two mail accounts on gmx.de:
login1 / pwd1; pop on port 110 / smtp on port 25
login2 / pwd2; pop on port 110 / smtp on port 25
account1 is an "old" account, configured since MacOSX 10.1. account2 was added recently (MacOSX 2.8).
account1 works (at least until now) without any problems.
account 2 works "seldom". When trying to _RECEIVE_ mail it mostly gives a "server error" which tells me that mail app cannot connect to mail.gmx.de on port 110. After some _REBOOTS_ it sometimes works.
_SENDING_ mail does always work.
The login data is correct since I can do
telnet mail.gmx.de 110
USER login2
PASS pwd2
LIST
RETR ..
QUIT
anytime.
I cleared the keychains and even created a new user freshly configuring the mail app with just this accout2 - no success.
Any additional hints?
Any system protocols written?
No info in /var/log/mail.log or var/log/system.log.
Where can I look in the boot messages since because it sometimes works after some reboots there may be a difference concerning services started.
