It's a great hack and really, it doesn't mess anything up. I can finally live with it. I wanted the date showing with the time since I converted, but I didn't want to use a third party utility. Now I am happy.

Strange... I tried the hack and it doesn't seem to work... I have the .plist viewer installed via the Developer kit so it's not really rocketscience to directly change the xml files... but when I tried the hack, my mouse preferences got whacked when I logged back into my account (!) so I'm a bit stumped on this one...
