My Power Mac G5, Dual 1.8 GHz, 4G RAM, 80G HD (Mac OS X 10.4.11) will not start up fully, and I'm not sure what else to try or if I have a dead computer here.

I have tried the following:

- Resetting PRAM
- Replaced PRAM Battery
- Booted in Open Firmware, NVRAM reset
- Booted in Target Disk Mode, ran Disk Util on HD, Successful
- Booted with Apple Hardware Test CD, Quick and Extended Tests Successful
- Booted in Single-User Mode, ran fsck, successful
- Booting from Hard Drive, Startup will hang at the Grey Apple Screen and the "pinwheel" (not beachball) will freeze and startup will not continue.
- Booting from the Mac OS X Install CD (10.3) the machine came with also Freezes as it does when booting from Hard Drive.

I'm not really worried about the contents of the HD (which I can get to anyway via Target Disk Mode) but I really just want to have this box working again.

P.S. I posted this earlier, but got the specs completely wrong. I figured I would start fresh.
Thanks,

Looks like I have a resolution! I tried all kind of things at this stage, Pulling CD drives, replacing RAM, everything that I could think of that was related. Turns out, pulling the video card allowed the machine to start up! I cleaned the socket, replaced the card and now it works as it used to!

That tells me you should do two thing. First buy a can of Compressed Air (found in a lot of local stores) and blow out your Mac to rid it of dust. Second is buy a simple CD/DVD cleaning disk and run it in your optical drive.

Doing this will clean out all the dust in your Mac. most every Mac user should be doing this at least once a year.
