Powerbook CD Burning errors

I have a 15" Powerbook G4 800 MHz/ 512 MB RAM / 60 GB / CD-RW/DVD-ROM. I'm having a problem when I burn CD's either through Mac OS 10.2.6 or when I use Roxio's Toast Titanium. I get an error Code 3 (I don't know what that means) during the verify, I have also gotten an error about sector 0 being unreadable. This is all on the same CD-RW.

I also did some testing to a regular CD-R and still had problems. Ranging from files being unreadable on the CD to being very very slow to go through the file system on the CD to not even being able to mount the CD to the file system.

I did try to apply an Apple Firmware update to the CD-R/DVD but the install told me I didn't need it and it won't install.

If anyone can think of what I might be able to do, I'd appreciate it if you'd help me out.

Thanks in advance.

I assume ( from the distance :) ) that this is a hardware problem, something wrong with your drive. I'm sorry to tell you, but this is the most probable assumption imho.

Do you still have warranty? AppleCare? If so, go and let them replace your drive. Otherwise, either pay the replacement yourself or get an external firewire burner.

I am thinking there is hardware problem. I was wondering about the warranty myself. I don't have AppleCare, and I once called about my trackpad being worn down and they kept saying that unless I had AppleCare they couldn't do anything for me. But I thought the parts at least were covered for a year. If I take it into an Apple Store do you think they can fix it there or do they just ship it off?

At least take it in and see what they say. You've either got bad hardware or a bad system, I'm not sure which.
