Recently my powerbook's cd-rom/rw drive has a strange problem. When I insert a music cd, dvd, or game it will make a few noises as if it's trying to read it for just a few seconds and then ejects the disc. What is also strange is that it will read copied cd's just fine and will also burn discs.
Today I tried to install and old game of mine without success because it kept ejecting the disc, but I copied the game on my PC onto a recordable cd and then it read fine on my mac.
Could anyone offer any suggestions or thoughts on what the problem might be other than an explanation that the drive is "bad." Just wondering if I should put up with it or look into some other option because I don't want to spend a few hundred dollars having it repaired by apple.
