hi, i'm new here, so hello : )

i just bought a second hand ipod and i'm having difficulties getting it to work with my 15" powerbook 1.5Ghz.
the ipod i bought was in pc format, so after repeatedly trying the 5r's thing i got it too mount once and restored it with the utility.
i got it too work that one time after first rebooting in linux, which is possibly not related, but strange.

it should be restored and seems to work properly, but it doesn't mount and is not recognized by finder, itunes or ipod software-updater.
it does charge.

i tried a number of different ipods and none of them seem to mount, so the problem should be my computer.
i've tried both usb and fw on every available port.

any help would be greatly appreciated, getting apple to help me is not that easy, since i'm in china and things like this can be depressingly difficult to get fixed here.

i run osx 10.3.9 on a 15" 1.5 Ghz alubook with latest itunes and ipod software updater. the ipod is a 20Gb, fourth gen click wheel.

thanks in advance
