I have a powerbook G4 and I'm having some problems running files and programs I downloaded.
The files download to the desktop correctly but when I try to open them they only open with iPhoto. I'e tried changing the settings but I don't know the applications to run the files with.
All of my files open under iPhoto, I'm currently trying GuitarPro 5 but like I said it keeps trying to run it as an iPhoto file, Please help.

You give no hint about the nature of the files that you are downloading. I will assume that they are .dmg disc image files. If Safari is appending an additional extension on these mystery files, then remove the extra extension leaving only the .dmg extension. If an extra extension is not being appended, then make sure that your downloaded files are associated with DiskImageMounter.

I have no clue about a lot of computer things. I don't know the nature of the files I'm downloading, right now I'm just trying to get GuitarPro 5 and Frostwire, I'm not sure what you mean by the nature of them..

I was not familiar with either application. It seems that they both cater mainly to Windows users. However, there are Mac versions of both. Be sure that you are downloading the Mac versions of these applications. As I suspected, they are distributed as disc image files. The advice that I gave above applies. My guess is that Safari is appending an extra extension to each file. If this is the case and if you remove the added extension, then you should be left with a file for Frostwire named frostwire-4.21.2.dmg. Just remove everything after the g.

As for GuitarPro 5, again you should end up having downloaded a file named GP5DEMO.dmg. Again, you may have to remove everything after the g. By double-clicking on each .dmg file, you will mount it on your Desktop.

Frostwire features drag&drop installation. Drag the blue icon wherever you want to keep it to drag it to the Applications alias icon inside the window to install it at the top level of your Applications folder.

By double-clicking on the brown .mpkg icon in the GuitarPro5.3DEMO, you will run the installer. It will do what it needs to do to install the application.

Well I haven't been able to attempt changing the names of the files yet, I'm assuming that's what you meant by changing the extension, because my computer is having some problems turning on at the moment but as soon as able I'm going to attempt it.
Also, I'm not sure if you knew this but the files download to the desktop fine, it's actually when I try to run the installer that it opens up iPhoto so I can't install the programs fully.
Thank you for the help however, please keep in touch with more advice

Read carefully my post. I said nothing about downloading difficulties. Also, read carefully that I suspect that an extra extension is being appended to your .dmg downloaded files. If an extension follows .dmg in your downloaded filenames, then remove them. There should be nothing that follows .dmg in the file name. Understand?
