Powerbook G4 firmware help.

I'm on a 1.3 GHz 12" Powerbook G4 running Mac OS 10.4.9 and I have a huge problem. I need to reinstall the firmware, but can't find anywhere to download it for OS X. Everywhere I've searched I've found that I can only reinstall firmware using OS 9. Can anybody help me figure out how to get new firmware and how to install it on my powerbook? Any appropriate responses are welcome.

Why do you think you need to install Firmware?
The last Firmware update for a PowerBook was for the 667MHz machine.
 
It's actually not for me, it's my Father's computer. I'm not 100% sure of the problem, but I guess his CD/DVD drive isn't working and somebody - somewhere - told him it was a firmware problem.

*He has already tried practically everything else, no luck.
