Help!

My sons powerbook G4 died. He said it got slow and just hung. He forced it off and now it wont boot. It comes up to the apple logo then stops. No spinner or anything. I reset power management. When I try to boot from the install CD I get a kernel panic. I tried new ram and that didnt help. Any ideas??

Thanks!
Joe

What version of Mac OS X is running on the PB G4? Does your son have the original set of Install Discs OR a Full Retail Installation Disc/s? Did you hold down the "C" key upon hearing the Startup Chime when you tried to boot from the Install Disc?

You say you tried new RAM ... was the original RAM faulty in any way before this issue? If not, put the original RAM back in before continuing with the troubleshooting.

I did get it going. It was a bad drive. I could not even boot the install CD. Once I replaced the hard drive it was all fine. Thanks for the reply!
