I'm really stupid with this but what should I get to network my main windows computer to my powerbook w/ the printer, files, and internet shared. That's all I want to do and I don't know what airport to get. I want the desktop pc to be wired but the powerbook wireless w/ my airport extreme card. Thanks

I use a Linksys WRT54G. Its a 802.11G base station with built in, 4-port switch, so it can support wired and wireless connections. I'm not using it to share out a printer or anything, though. You can actually buy a Linksys WRT54G and an Airport Express for the same price as one Airport Extreme. The Extreme stations have pretty weak signal strength in my experience.

You can join the Express to your Linksys and probably could use the built in print server. I have mine joined on the same network, but not for wireless printing.

All you need is a wireless router. I wouldn't buy an Aiport Base Station, too much money, and the range isn't as good. I have an Airport Base and switched to the Netgear.

Netgear 802.11b Cable/DSL Router for $9.99 shipped after rebate

Plug the PC into the Router, turn Airport on in the PB and you should be good to go. Once you do that, come back and let us know what printer you have connected and we'll help you set that up.

I guess the question is, do you want the printer plugged into a machine or into a network device? I would assume you probably don't want to share the printer off of your PowerBook, since its a portable?

Sounds like his printer is connected to the PC. he can share it from there. If your printer is a network printer, even simpler.

Sure :)

That's why I also mentioned the Airport Express, just in case they wanted it in a different area....more options for the same price, or less price, of one AirPort Extreme and you'll get much better performance! :)

Thanks alot. You all are very helpful. I went with the Linksys wrt54G, I'm just getting it setup but my printer is connected to the PC and I was trying to get the two networked anyway, can you do that? Thanks
