Powerbook Screen Goes Black

My PowerBook (G4 1GHz running 10.3.9) screen goes black. It only seems to do it when I have a CD in the CD drive. I can sometimes close it, have it go to sleep, and then wake it up. Other times it seems I've had to restart it. It will keep going black (sometimes immediately, other times after 5 or more minutes) until I remove the CD (I've tried various CDs).

Also, recently (on two separate batteries), my computer seems to completely lose power when not connected to an outlet. The date has to be reset etc. once I restart. I'm not sure if these problems are related.

As for the date and time having to be reset the PRAM/clock battery is probably dead. As for the CD problem; i'm not sure.
