powermac g4 failure single beep on boot up

Please help,

I had just installed ilife 05 and at the sametime a security update
had finished and required a restart. On shutting down mac did not complete
function was hanging. Powered down and reboot has this result.
single beep on boot up.

have tried removing battery and reset button still the same. also prior to shutdown was swapping screen resolution for imovie in quick succession.

what shall I do regards jon

a single beep (not the normal boot chime, but a short beep) usually means that the memory is not being detected. If you have just one memory chip installed, try reseating that, or moving to a different slot. If you have more than one memory chip, reseat all chips. If you can then reboot, check in About this Computer, to see that all your installed memory is recognized.
