Hello!

I am sorry, I forgot to tell you guys that I released the next beta of PowerText, I have been busy and apologize.

If you are interested in testing this software please visit http://www.myfamilycenter.org/appletreesw/board/index.php and look inside the PowerText Bug Reporting forum. You will need a password to enter this section, I did this for security reasons and the pass is "fujexell"

I do not want to keep posting this kind of stuff in the Mac OS X forums since I feel like I am advertising or something. Could you guys please post and bugs or feature requests in my forums at that URL? It is easier for me to track this kind of stuff that way :)

Oh, and yes, it is back to cocoa! ;)

Have a great day!

Albert

Please don't take this personaly.

Last time I downloaded your 'great' app I was forced to log-in as root and trash the majority of my HD files. Why does it install under root user? That really takes a way from it all! And it's preferences file is easy to find/hack, you should encript it if possible. Also: the installer needs to install a folder, not JUST the files. I got confused when I saw a read me file in my Applications Folder, I had no clue what it belonged too.

Anyway, your app caused a lot of havic on my machine. So there's one customer lost.

That's just what happened to me, it's a good application, but could use quiet a bit of improvement before another release to the public.

Yes, the root user really bugged me last time I tried this. You should just put it on a dmg in a folder. You're making the installation process MUCH harder on yourself than it needs to be.

Hello!

I am really sorry about all the troubles with the installer. No idea why it installed as root user or why it did not create a folder like it should have. Next beta I will put it in a DMG file with no installer, just drag + drop.

Also, these releases are not to the public, which is why I am not posting it in the public section of the forums. That is also why I password protected the download, so regular users would not hurt themselves on the bugs. Maybe I should have included a disclaimer explaining that these things may happen. This is a beta, which means there are some bugs and some things not done right.

I am sorry, Trip, if I in any way caused you loss on any of your data or personal property. :(

martinatkinson: Thank you for your reply. And remember: that's another reason why you released that beta to us is so we can tell you want we think should be improved. So in a way everything works out...

Hello!

Was that all the problems you had with it was just the root user problem? BTW, was that this beta or a previous one? Again, I am extremly sorry for the trouble I have caused your life, I only wish I would have known before hand so I could have prevented it.

Have a great day!

It was version 1.0b4 of PowerText. So I guess it was this most recent version. It was the only version I ever installed (if you can guess why :p ).

It happened on previous version too though. Installers are generally a BAD thing, unless you simply have to (installing a kext, stuff into /System etc)

Hello!

OK, I will keep that in mind. Someone told me that some novice computer users do not know how to "drag and drop" :) and that it would be easier to install it. I guess this is not the case since it may cause more trouble for the novice if it does that root stuff. Next release is soon and will just have a DMG with a folder and instructions :)

Have a great day!

Albert
