prevent custom icons from generating automatically?

I just upgraded from Tiger to Leopard 10.5.5. I realized that whenever I open the finder window in Leopard, all icons (especially documents and image files) automatically changes to custom icons with a miniature image of the contents.

in Tiger, the only time you got the custom icon is if you specifically generated one.

How do I turn off this feature? I just want to see generic icons for documents.

Go to the View menu, select View Options, and uncheck the box labelled "Show Icon Preview". Then you'll probably want to click the "Use as Defaults" button to make the change apply to all folders unless you specifically turn it on.
