Prevent disk saturation ?

I often saturate my HD with downloads. When I get under 100M or 200M of free space, the Finder gets mad, Mail unexpectdly closes, a fatal error kills iTunes and all Finder, Mail and iTunes prefs are lost, as well as other prefs (opened apps).

Is there a way to prevent downloads to saturate the disk ?

Get more disk space. Another hard drive, external Firewire or USB.

You might want to look into disk quotas too. I am not sure if osX has it built in or not but its not too difficult to use in Freebsd.

No way to prevent one application to generate more than ---Megs of traffic ?
