Previous System Folder

Yesterday, as a result of my stupidity, I had to reinstall Leopard from the installation disks. I recovered virtually all of my data.

When reinstalling OS X, a Previous System folder is created. Is it safe to trash this folder? I'm not sure whether the functions in the new installation somehow depend on the Previous System folder not being disturbed.

If I do trash Previous System, will the "space" it takes up be available again on the hard drive?

Or should I just dump the folder into my external drive?

These are my first questions on this forum. Thanks for any advice.

Nothing is used from it.

Only if you empty the trash after trashing it.

If you suspect you should ever need anything out of that folder in the future, then this would be a more desirable option over trashing it completely.
