Previously paired bluetooth keyboard can't seem to send passkey

I've been using an Apple bluetooth keyboard with my 17" G4 Alubook for nearly 18 months. It has worked fine until now.

I can't get it to pair.

When I try to set it up the Alubook can find it OK. It shows up as 'phillip's keyboard' as before.

The Alubook generates a passkey, but when I type it in and hit return I get nothing. The Alubook tells me that " The pairing attempt was unsuccessful" and asks me to check that the keyboard is in range.

Batteries are new - the light underneath keeps flashing with a sequence of two short pulses.

Should I trash preferences? If so which one's and where are they?

I'm running 10.4.7

The Bluetooth.prePane shows v1.7.5

I ran the Bluetooth firmware updater 1.2.0 to see if this fixed the problem - it didn't and I've a feeling someone will tell me that that was a mistake.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Phil

I have exactly the same problem with a Mini - and have also tried with 10.4.6 and 10.4.8. The Mac pairs with a mouse perfectly well. Do we conclude that the keyboard is now broken?
