price-reduction to current models getting an update at WWDC?

reading up on some of your WWDC predictions, i have a couple of questions..

if the G5's get speedbumped, how will this affect the price of the current g5's? guess the price-level of the new ones will be the same as the current, but is it possible to predict how many percent the current models will drop as the new ones come out?

will there be similar changes in price on the displays, if new ones get released? will there be a difference in percent dropped concerning g5's/displays...?

does theese changes in price take affect from day 1, or just when the new ones can be delivered(meaning september, novemer or whatever)?

how has this been prior yrs? - i haven't been into macs that long, so i'm kinda exited about maybe getting hold of good models a bit more reasonably..

Typically, when new models are announced and available on the online Apple store, you can no longer purchase the older models, except from 3rd party retailers, whom typically keep the pre-new-model prices until shipments of the new models arrive, at which time the new models will be sold at a price very near to what Apple sells them for.

Usually, Apple keeps its price points about the same -- $1400 - $1800 for the base model, $2000 - $2500 for the midrange, and $2800 - $3000 for the top end model. If new G5s are announced, expect those price points and ranges to stay the same, except the models will be faster than the previous models.

If you wish to purchase a previous generation G5 once the new G5s come out, you can check Apple's refurbished/Special Deals section, but quantities are usually limited. Typically Apple discontinues old models once the new ones are released.

The new prices take effect the minute you can place an order on the Apple store, not from the actual ship date of the computer. If you remember, when the dual 2.0GHz was announced, you could order one online for the advertised price, but the ship date was a month or two in the future.

In a nutshell, expect the prices to stay about the same: within a few hundred dollars of the old prices. The only difference will be that the money you spend after the new models are announced will get you a faster, improved machine, whereas if you buy now, you'll be spending roughly the same amounf of money as if you had waited -- you'll just get a slower machine.

ok - so waiting, in line to get a current model g5(which fits my needs more than enough!) to a reduced price isn't really likely to happen?

the deal about refurbished/special deals is easier for you guys living in the us. as of 'til now i haven't seen one retailer in france/norway(europe for that matter) that offer refurbished macs. please correct me if i'm wrong, i would be so pleased to ble proved wrong!

the french online shop probably offers refurbished g5's the UK store does and there are plenty of other dealers in the UK who offer refurbshed macs! dont know about the rest of erope though!

yeah? the french one does? cool! guess i haven't been paying enough attention then. thanks for letting me know!
