Printer Problem

I just got a new iMac and shortly after I updated to Leopard. So I don't know which is actually the source of my problem.

I'm use a Lexmark 5400series printer and am having trouble getting it to work on my new equipment and or software.

I went through the suggested steps of removing the orignal drivers and installing the driver that came with Leopard. That solved several problems, at least now my machine is willing talk to my printer.

But anytime I try to send a print command i get this message in the queue...

/usr/libexec/cups/backend/usb failed
Missing USB class driver

No idea what to do about that.

I've heard that ppl are able to get their scanners to still work, but I'm still suffering from problems with that aswell.

I can start a scan, preview a scan and tell the printer to make the scan, but when it all done and I get the saving part of the deal, the capture program freezes and quits on me.

Thanks Much,

I found this on another site. It's the only thing I have tried that allowed my Lexmark 5400 series to work. Good Luck!

"I recently upgraded to Leopard and saw that I could not print in Microsoft Word or Safari or anything else none the less.... I would click print and the programs would close unexpectedly. Here is the fix.... go to Library/Printers/Lexmark/PDEs you will see some plugins... IJAdvancedOptions.plugin, IJColorOptions.plugin, IJPrinterServices.plugin, IJPrintQuality.plugin... ok now what to do to make the freaking printer work?? rename all those to .plugindisabled at the end.. restart your machine.. then welcome back to printing goodness untill lexmark decides that we are cool enough to write drivers for again :) Just my experience...hope this helps lots of us."
