hello everyone,
i have a G4 [with os x 10.3.9] and i need a printer for it. I just want a cheap basic printer, to print 'textedit' words. A friend has an old Epsom that he was using with his PC, he said i can have it...am i correct in thinking that PC printers will not work on Macs? His is missing the usb connector; so is it worth buy the cable? Either way, which model would you guys recommend? [It has to be basic, i have no need for colours]
cheers

If you have the correct driver, a PC printer will work just fine with Macs. Of course, you also need a cable.

i got hold of an Epson c46, all the cables and a cd. However, the cd just says 'for Windows'; i connected everything up, but the G4 keeps saying that the driver is not installed...how do i get hold of the driver? I went to Epson's site, but they say that there is no driver available to download since my operating platform may already have it. I can't find it on the computer. Can anyone help?
thanks

'i got hold of an Epson c46' ...

01. insert the 'Panther Install Disc 3'.
02. In 'Finder', select the 'Go, Go to Folder...' menu item. Either a 'Go to Folder' window will appear, or a drop down sheet on a current 'Finder' window.
03. Copy ...

"/Volumes/Mac OS X Install Disc 3/Packages/"

... and paste into the 'Go to Folder' window or drop down sheet, and click on the 'Go' button. The 'Packages' window will open.
04. Double click on 'EpsonPrinterDrivers2.pkg', and continue through the installation process.

'EpsonPrinterDrivers2.pkg' - installs drivers for the C40 series of Epson printers.

thanks Barhar, your advice sounds as if it would work well, however i've only got 2 installation disks [ilife'o4, 1 and 2]; do you know where i could download the driver?
thanks

hi,
i turned my room upside-down, but i only found one installation disc [vol. 1.0, is that disc number 1?] I tried e-mailing Epson, hopefully they'll send me to a site where i can download the driver.
thanks

Personally I dislike Epson printers because of the extra print monitor software usually required to run it. Buggy and slow, IMHO.

Go HP or Canon.

the joy, the pleasure...to hear a chugging printer...Bobw is right: gimp-print, gimp-print, GIMP-PRINT...damn, it took a while...infact i thought it might be easyeir to buy a new printer...no, no,no...gimp-print provided salvation.
thanks everyone...chugg,chugg, chugg.
