Printing in Quark on system 10.4 with Epson 900

I am having problems with my printouts in Quark 6.1 on a Mac with OS 10.4. I hooked up my Epson Stylus Color 900 to the new Mac and seemed to be able to print with no problem. However, the margin on one side is impossible to fix. No matter what I do--including a change of the paper to the custom size option--it prints out with about a 1/2 inch gap on one side, cutting off part of the image. (This is on regular, 8 1/2 by 11 paper.) In preview mode, the entire layout shows up and the image is not cut off, so I'm puzzled. I downloaded the Epson 900 print driver and installed it, thinking it might help, but that didn't seem to do anything.

I had moved my layouts over from an ancient 3.3 version of Quark on my old G4 with OS 9.2 to the new computer. But on the old computer, the layouts printed out fine. I thought maybe the layout I was working with might be the problem, so I opened another one and still got the same result printing. One thing that might explaint this is a message that popped up when I tried to print the second layout. It said something about the Printer Description File not being installed and that a generic PPD would be used instead.

Does anyone have any advice? Is there something I can download? Is there some well hidden setting for the Epson that I'm missing? Or is it a specific setting in Quark that I'm getting wrong? I'm quite frustrated. Thanks for any ideas!

To add the printer in Printer Setup, are you clicking More Printers and then selecting Epson USB? That's what you do to get the Epson-provided drivers. Otherwise, you are using the Gimp-Print driver.

I just tried this and I am still unable to fix the problem. I can't select the custom paper size I set up if I choose Epson USB; only if I select Any Printer. With Epson USB, the preview does show the image being cut off on one side. With Any Printer, I can see the full image in preview mode. Both ways, though, it prints out with the image cut off.

There seem to be a lot of inconsistencies with the printing/page setup process. For example, even though I can't have it format to custom paper size when choosing Epson USB, if I go in to the Printer sub menu, I can choose the custom paper size as the destination paper. The only other thing I can think of is to adjust the margins for US Letter, but I don't know that this is an option. I never had this problem on OS 9 with the same printer, so this is kind of ridiculous.

Is it possible that the driver isn't updated to Tiger? Or that maybe there's some weird quirk about the way the layout is set up that's making it cut off one side? I'm not well-versed in Quark. However, I'm really more incined to think that this isn't a Quark problem and more likely a printer/driver problem. But if anyone has any other ideas or insights, please share them as I am beyond frustrated.
