Printing problems...

Barking at the moon.
Hi all, I'm having an issue with my Lexmark Z32 printer. Although I think it's more of an OS problem than a printer problem. Here's what happens:

I try to print something but my Mac doesn't send the file to the printer. It doesn't matter if the printer is plugged into the hub, straight into the Mac, or not plugged in at all. It does the same thing where the 'print' icon shows up in the dock then disappears. Nothing.

I can, however, print a test page from the Lexmark Print Center. So it's not a bad connection. And yes, the printer is showing up in the Print Options menu.

I've restarted my Mac and uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers twice. Nothing. Any ideas?

(P.S. Same thing happens from any app, be it Word, Excel, OmniWeb or BBedit.)

Is the Lexmark you have a postscipt level 1 or postscript level 2 printer? I'm not familiar with Lexmark printers, but it makes a difference to OS X.

Have you tried this:

Q. How can I print in the Classic mode of OS X using the Z32?
A. Follow these steps:
1. Save any unsaved work.
2. Install the appropriate Lexmark Z32 Macintosh OS 9 printer driver in Mac OS 9.1 if you have not done so. Note: "classic" printing requires that OS 9.1 be installed.
3. Disable the Lexmark Z22/Z32 Background extension. (To do this, in OS 9 / Classic, Click on Apple (Red icon) / Control Panels / Extension Manager. Scroll past the control panels to the extensions section and locate the Lexmark Z22/Z32 Background extension and remove the x from the square beside this extension. OS 9 / Classic must be restarted for this change to take effect.)
4. Restart OS 9 / Classic.
5. Open your Application and File to be printed.
6. From the Menu bar, select File / Print.

Found it on the Lexmark site.

I've got a lexmark Z23 and I've found that the only way to reliably print from an OS X application is if Classic isn't running. If I'm in a classic app it prints fine, but in order to print from an OS X app I have to quit Classic. Hope that helps.
