Pro Mouse Issues

Howdy
I have one of the spiffy pro-mice and i hate it because it doesn't work right. I had a hockey puck mouse and it was fine. Now with the pro-mouse on my PowerBook 667 it's jittery and doesn't respond correctly. I thought i'd get the mouse replaced, and i did, and that didn't fix the problem. Is there mouse pref's i can throw out under X? Any suggestions?

Thanks

This is going to sound weird but you might try a new mouse pad. I notice that mine works best with a pad with a busy pattern (mine is a pizza) rather than a simple pattern or none at all.

This is true. Optical mice seem to be picky about the surfaces they use, sometimes.... I've heard of people having problems using them on glass tables and other non-desk-ish surfaces. I was surprised, but when I was at the New York MacWorld where the Pro mouse was introduced, all the display Macs were sitting on lit- plexi-glass-type counters.... and the Pro mice worked just fine. Crazy, eh? Try different surfaces.

Watch out Twister, that started happening to me on my iBook, it would get all jerky and wouldn't respond properly. Now, it just wont respond twenty minutes after plugging it in, and eventually it will give me a kernel panic. So, as you can understand, I no longer use it on my iBook. Strangely enough, my iMac running OS 9 does not have any of these difficulties, and the mouse will run indefinitly.

Well my mouse pad is black with no pattern so i'll toss it on the floor for a while and just use the desk with it's fake wood pattern. We'll see if that helps.

thanks

i use no mouse pad with my pro mouse.... if it cant get dirt in the trackball, what is the point of confining yourself to a little square when you could use your whole desk?

Probably a good idea to get a wrist-rest too. I've had mild RSI since December because my wrist seems to turn slightly more than with the old-fashioned button mouse. I haven't heard of anybody else getting this, so it could just be my aging physique!

I still try to 'grab' the sides when clicking and dragging. Can't get out of the habit.

Cheers, Lazzo
