Probably a stooopid question...

wicky

play thing
... but do we (the collective we that is... as in, anybody other than me) have any inside info on when the first bits of amended software will roll-out for the new dual Intel Mac's.

I'm right on the cusp of needing a new machine, have considered all of the arguments for and against, and reckon the new machines are probably right for me.

I'm guessing developers such as Adobe will be on it pretty quickly, but I can't really afford to get kit that won't work for months.

.... any ideas from those insiders out there?¿

Cheers

Heres what i've heard:
Adobe/macromedia apps arn't going to go universal untill the next version comes out (CS3, etc.)

Apple is going to crossgrade the pro apps later this month

Thats really all i know

Mr Burns, a very useful PDF indeed... I think I'll hold off on the Intel machine in favour of the (reasonably) trusty G5.

Thanx

CS2 was realeased around this time last year, wasn't it? that would mean CS3 should be released (very) late 2006-early 2007. I agree it is a bit early to replace your main mac with an intel if you use Adobe apps, but it's also a little late to buy a new PPC mac in my opinon.

You appear to be stuck between a rock and a hard place :(

would you think that, hey by luck this app works on the intel? Like Thoth worked on both classic and OSX for example, or I'm just sorta, 'oh dah no way!"

I wouldnt be surprised though if at the WWDC Adobe announces when CS3 will be out (late this year) my guess Oct/Nov

It's not that those applications don't work at all on the Intel Macs -- they actually do (Adobe's apps, that is). They just run through an emulation layer ("Rosetta") that will make them run slower... how slow? Some are saying at about 40% to 80% of native speed.

Using PhotoShop on the new Core Duo Macs would probably be akin to using it on a 1.0 to 1.5GHz G4 machine.
