probably a very simple question.

This is my first post so hello.
I have an imac G4, it was one of the first in the country so its a 700mhz model.
Im an illustraition student so my mac and tablet are indespensible.
I want to add more ram and have 2 sd 256 at the moment.
Under the mac is the sodimm socket with one of the 256's, can I simply swap it over for a 512?
Oh and what is the other port under there? the one with the little cable?
Thanks.

Yes, if you get 512 you can swap that out so you'll have 768 total. The little cable and other port are probably for the airport extreme card.

You can upgrade memory to 1 GB, requiring disassemble of the bottom case to get at the top side of the logic board (Do not do this yourself, requires heat-sync compound for re-assembly). But, the upper memory slot is a standard PC-100 DIMM memory chip, not the PC-100 SO-DIMM chip in your accessible slot. Each can be 512 MB.
The cable and port is for an Airport wireless card (not an Extreme card, which has a different card connection and different cable)
