Problem Assigning Keyboard Shortcuts

Hi -

I've encountered a problem that I think may just be a design flaw, but I thought I'd see if anyone has a solution.

I'm trying to assign a keyboard shortcut in an application I use to work, and the Mac interface just asks you to specify the program and the command name in the menu bar that you want to create a shortcut to. In the application I'm using, the menu bar has an option called "Shift" which then opens a sub-menu containing the command I actually want to create the shortcut to, also called "Shift." So, when I create the shortcut, it will highlight the first "Shift" but won't actually do anything because they are both named the same thing.

Anyone know a way to get around this?

Yeah, you have it exactly right - the program is FinalCut Pro.

I don't think Automator would work, because as far as I know I've only been able to use that for Mac-specific programs. I will try the keyboard mapper though and maybe I'll have some luck - thanks!

Ah - ProTools (with its own set of foibles!)
Well, that explains it, then... :D

I guess you've been around PT long enough to know that you want to be careful when modifying anything about how ProTools works... I work with a few protools users - most are very nervous about making any changes. You get PT working, and then a minor system update breaks it..... But, maybe I'm speaking from experiences from 3 or 4 years ago.... :D
